Scotty Marine’s Paddle Leash packs a lot of good features into oneproduct. First of all, there is a risk of getting tangled in one’spaddle tether, so the shorter tether cord the better. Yet the tethercord needs to be long enough to let you move through all your paddlestroke ranges of motion including rolling. So a stretchy cord is betterthan a rope tether, and a coiled cord stretches even more than a bungeecord. The Scotty Marine Paddle Leash combines a coil cord with clips atboth ends so you can disconnect it at either end — another safetyfeature in case you get fouled up in it. The Paddle Leash comes with twofigure “8” loops to put on your paddle and spare paddle. With theseloops in place it is quick and easy to clip the tether to your paddles.When not using the paddle tether, you can clip both ends to the bungeesin front of your cockpit so the tether will always be ready when needed.
Note there are situations when it is dangerous to tether yourpaddle, and other times when tethers can come unclipped or breakaccidently. So never rely on a paddle tether as your first line ofdefense — use it as a back-up in case you drop your paddle by mistake.Carry a spare paddle and practice wet exits and rescues until you can dothem without letting go of your paddle.
